Flat pads and spring pads are commonly used parts in mechanical connections. The following is a specific introduction to them:
Flat cushion
-Structural features: It is generally a circular thin sheet made by stamping iron plates and other materials, with smooth and regular edges, uniform thickness, parallel sides, and a circular hole in the center that matches the diameter of the bolt.
-Function: It can increase the contact area between screws and connected parts such as machines, evenly distribute pressure over a wider area, reduce stress concentration on the pressure bearing surface, protect the surface of the connected parts, and prevent damage caused by excessive local pressure between nuts and connecting equipment. In addition, when there are long bolt holes for adjusting the installation position of the workpiece, the flat pad can assist in fine-tuning the installation position and simplify the operation in frequent disassembly and maintenance situations.
-Application scenario: Suitable for environments with small loads, no vibration or slight vibration, as well as situations where one of the materials in the connector is relatively soft, such as furniture connection parts that do not require high vibration.
Spring washer
-Structural features: A spring with a spiral like appearance, composed of tightly wrapped metal wires in a disc shape, with a circular hole in the middle for bolts to pass through, and a certain elastic height in an unstressed state.
-Function: The main function is to prevent loosening. After tightening the nut, the spring pad uses elasticity to apply a reverse elastic force to the nut, making the thread contact between the nut and the bolt tighter, increasing friction, and effectively preventing nut loosening or falling off due to vibration, impact, or long-term use. When the clamping length of the bolt is limited and the stress relaxation of the bolt is significant, the reduced clamping force due to stress relaxation can be compensated to maintain the stability of the connection.
-Application scenario: Commonly used in situations with large dynamic loads, strong mechanical vibrations, and significant changes in medium pressure or temperature, such as parts of automotive engines, machine tools, and other equipment that are prone to loose connections due to vibration.
Flat pads and spring pads are often used in combination. When it is necessary to protect the surface of the connected component and prevent loose connections, the spring pad is usually placed between the flat pad and the nut.
